Duramax with NEW Callies Compstar-Durastar crankshaft (https://www.callies.com/catalog/product/compstar-duramax/ ) plus a Stage 1 AFO Camshaft in your remanufactured Chevrolet Duramax engine.

Built with the stronger LB7 pistons and properly remanufactured with new parts. Every Duramax long block that we offer has a balanced crankshaft with keyways added to the crank to prevent the gears from spinning. Every Duramax engine is assembled with ARP MAIN bolts, ROD bolts, and HEAD studs. Whether you want a basic, stock replacement or something that can handle more workload, our Duramax 6.6L engine long block is built to handle from 360 to 397 (stock) horsepower, to over 700 HP without any major modifications.

Why add an Alternate Firing Order Camshaft?

The firing order of a stock Duramax engine is 1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3. The last cylinder to fire is 3, followed by 1 then 2. With the front 3 cylinders firing 3-1-2, this firing order puts a lot of stress on the front third of the crank which contributes to a lot of crankshafts breaking, mostly in the newer 2007-2016, higher horsepower engines.

A very common solution to the above problem is to change the firing order to 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8. This spreads the power throughout the entire crankshaft so that the front part doesn’t take all the force. The alternate-firing camshaft moves a portion of the power to the rear of the crankshaft, which allows it to be absorbed by the flexplate. Unlike with gas engines, the alternate firing order doesn’t really promote any major power gains. However, it can potentially prolong the lifespan of the crankshaft and stabilize the engine for additional power mods. The AFO camshaft has a firing order of 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8 which balances out the combustion which is less stressful on the crankshafts.  To learn more about the benefits of this AFO camshaft, read this article https://www.dieselworldmag.com/diesel-technology/alternate-firing-camshaft-duramax/

Should you Change the Firing Order on a Used Crankshaft?

A common question is whether an AFO camshaft should be used with a crankshaft that has already been used under the original firing order. We do not recommend it. A used crankshaft is already stressed at this point and will become more stressed when subjected to the alternate firing order. This is why we only offer an Alternate Firing order camshaft in an engine with a new Callies Durastar crankshaft.

Every Duramax engine that we offer has the stronger LB7 pistons and is properly remanufactured with new parts.  Because every engine we offer has a balanced crankshaft with keyways added to prevent the crank and cam gears from spinning. Consequently, you get a more reliable engine. Every long block is assembled with ARP MAIN bolts, ROD bolts, and HEAD studs,
